How to choose the right Anti Fatigue Mats

  • Measure the key standing areas such as cooklines, pass sections and tills to choose mat sizes that cover the full working zone without creating trip hazards.
  • Decide between solid and open-hole designs depending on whether you need drainage for spills and wash-down, or a continuous surface for dry areas.
  • Look for mats with strong anti-slip texture and bevelled edges if they will be used in wet kitchens, behind bars or at entrances.
  • Consider thickness and cushioning level to match shift length and staff standing time in high-volume restaurants, production lines or retail counters.
  • Check compatibility with cleaning chemicals and whether the mats are suitable for use with oils, fats and food debris common in commercial kitchens.
  • Plan how mats will fit around existing equipment, drains and doorways to maintain clear, safe walkways and comply with health and safety requirements.

Care and maintenance

  • Lift and clean mats regularly, hosing them down with warm water and suitable detergent to remove grease, food debris and dirt.
  • Allow mats to dry fully before putting them back into service to maintain grip and reduce the risk of slips.
  • Inspect edges and surfaces frequently for wear, curling or damage and replace mats that could become a trip hazard.
  • Avoid harsh, abrasive cleaners or tools that may damage the rubber surface and reduce anti-slip performance.
  • Rotate mats between high-traffic and lighter-use areas where possible to extend their overall service life.
  • Store mats flat when not in use to prevent warping and ensure they sit securely on the floor when redeployed.
