How to choose the right Infrared Light Bulbs

  • Match the bulb length (such as 118mm or 220mm) to your existing heat lamp, gantry or food warmer fitting.
  • Select the appropriate wattage based on how much heat you need to maintain safe serving temperatures without overcooking.
  • Decide between bare and jacketed quartz bulbs depending on whether you need extra protection from splashes or impact.
  • Consider the environment, such as open buffets, pass counters or back-of-house prep, when choosing heat intensity and coverage.
  • Check electrical compatibility and holder type (for example R7) to ensure a straightforward replacement.
  • Plan for usage levels in busy restaurants, hotels or carveries and choose bulbs with a lifespan suited to heavy daily use.

Care and maintenance

  • Allow infrared bulbs to cool fully before handling or replacing to avoid burns and thermal shock.
  • Clean bulbs and surrounding reflectors regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove grease and dust that can reduce efficiency.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals on the glass to prevent scratching and premature failure.
  • Inspect holders, contacts and wiring periodically for signs of heat damage or looseness and replace components as needed.
  • Do not touch quartz bulbs with bare hands; use gloves or a clean cloth to prevent oil deposits on the glass.
  • Keep heat lamps positioned safely away from flammable materials and follow manufacturer guidelines for clearances.
