The Banks WB12 is for trained operators who have been instructed in its operating procedure. Before start-up, connect the water inlet pipe, turn on the water and visually check the accessible pipes and connections for leaks. If any water leak is visible, do not dismantle fittings or investigate inside the boiler; keep the power off, or disconnect it if already connected and safe to do so, then contact an authorised service agent. Keep the steam release outlet unobstructed at all times. Never open the drain valve while the boiler is operating or still hot; the manual permits opening it only with both power and water supplies off and gives no cool-down time, so routine draining is outside this guide.
Safe start-up
- Confirm that the operator is trained in the WB12 operating procedure and that the steam release outlet at the bottom front is not blocked.
- Connect the water inlet pipe to the boiler, turn on the water and make a visual check of the accessible pipes and connections for water leaks.
- If no leak is visible, connect the power and check that the green power lamp is on; the boiler should fill automatically.
- From empty, the boiler normally takes approximately 30 minutes to heat completely.
- Once heat-up is complete, hot water can be drawn from the boiler tap with care.
The manual does not define a leak-test method, acceptable leak size or a repair procedure. Treat the check as visual and external only: do not tighten, remove or dismantle fittings as part of this guide. If a visible leak or another malfunction is present, disconnect power immediately when it is safe to do so and call the local authorised service agent.
Scalding, steam and drain boundaries
Incorrect use of the WB12 can cause scalds or burns. Keep hands and other body parts clear of hot water and steam, and do not work on a boiler that is operating or still hot.
The steam release pipe at the bottom front provides pressure balance and also acts as an overflow outlet during a malfunction. Do not block this outlet at any time. If water or steam is discharging unexpectedly, keep clear, disconnect power only if it is safe to do so and contact an authorised service agent.
The drain valve is at the bottom front and remains closed during normal operation. Do not open it while the unit is in use. The manual permits it to be opened only when both the power supply and water supply are turned off, but it does not state a safe cooling time; therefore this guide gives no operator draining procedure. Never attempt to drain hot water.
Cleaning the boiler
- Disconnect the power supply before cleaning.
- Because the boiler handles very hot water and the manual gives no cleaning cool-down time, do not clean it while it is hot; wait until the accessible surfaces are cool enough to handle safely.
- Wipe the accessible exterior with a wet towel.
- Do not hose down the water boiler.
- Do not use caustic chemicals or abrasive cleaning materials.
Keep water away from the plug, socket and other electrical parts. Cleaning is limited to accessible external surfaces; it does not authorise removal of covers, access to the tank, electrical testing or work on internal components.
Periodic external care checks
The manual calls for periodic checks but does not specify a daily cleaning or inspection frequency. At a suitable planned interval, visually check the accessible outside of the boiler for water leaks and visible damage to the power cable. Do not dismantle the boiler or create an internal inspection routine.
If a leak, damaged cable or other malfunction is found, disconnect power immediately when safe and call the local authorised service agent. Do not continue using the boiler while a malfunction is present.
Disconnect the boiler from the power supply when it is not in use. Use it only for boiling water, which is the purpose stated in the manual.
Overload and internal faults
A safety overload device operates if the boiler overheats. The unit must cool down before the device can be reset, but the manual does not give an operator reset method; call a qualified service agent and do not attempt the reset yourself.
Maintenance must be performed with power disconnected and is reserved for qualified service or maintenance personnel. Do not open panels or attempt work on probes, solenoids, wiring, heating elements, the control circuit or other internal parts.
Stop and call for service
Stop and obtain authorised service if there is a visible leak, damaged power cable, unexpected overflow or steam discharge, failed start-up, overheating, an operated safety overload, or any other malfunction. Keep clear of hot water and steam, leave the steam release outlet open, do not open the drain while the boiler is live or hot, and do not continue operating a faulty unit.
